saw this while waiting for a green light today. Camry Coupe? Corolla? what is it?

and went hulk mode trying to shorten a screw.

Kinja'd!!!

moved on to a saws-all which proceeded to murder the screw so I guess we’re even now.

That’s a B12 Sentra coupe.

Technically that’s the 2-door sedan. The coupe was much sportier-looking. And when was the last time anyone saw the coupe, hatch, or wagon?

My dad had an ‘89 Sentra XE “Coupe” (It’s more of a hatch) all the way up until 2012. It only had a 3-speed with no overdrive. The poor thing would scream at like 3200rpm doing 110km/h.

You could call the “coupe” a “hatch” except that they also sold a true hatch version.

3 different types of 2-door models in the same car line. The ‘80s were so much more interesting.

I’ve generally heard the coupe you posted refered to as the “Sport Coupe”, while the regular notchback coupe was just refered to as the coupe. Maybe that’s just marketing speak or unofficial enthusiast talk though; I’ll admit I’m not up on my Sentras.

When I was in high school my good friend had an '87 Sentra like that, it was the first car I attempted to drive stick shift on.

We installed a rudimentary stereo in it, like the entry level Kenwood late 90s CD receiver and and decent speakers, but the electrical system was so weak the lights dimmed when the bass hit, and that was with the head unit’s built-in amp. We even wired up a trunk light since it didn’t have one, with a switch from Radio Shack drilled into the leading edge of the trunk that was turned off when the trunk lid closed down on it. My dad helped us drill the hole for that.

It did come standard with a carburetor, and a rubber accordion shift boot though.

My dad had one of those for years exactly like that one - even same red color. It was kind of a marginal vehicle - floppy rear suspension, kinda junky interior, just a 4 speed manual (didn’t even get 5....), sounded like a tin can when you closed the doors - but it was super reliable and he put over 200,000 miles on it just putting a new clutch in it and brakes. It even had the original water pump on it when he sold it.

Well you had the 4-door sedan, 2-door sedan, Sport Coupe, Hatch, 5-door Wagon and the Pulsar/NX which was built on the Sentra platform (à la Civic/Del-Sol).

Looks like the 88 Sentra I learned to drive on, except mine was grey. It was a hand-me-down from my Dad. Poverty spec, vinyl seats, 4 speed manual with aforementioned accordion boot, no AC, no stereo, no tachometer. I learned to shift based on sound.

My dad had Circuit City install an auto-reversing tape deck so he’d have something to listen to during his 90 minute commute. I remember keeping a towel in it otherwise the seat would burn my legs after soccer practice. I locked the keys in it all the time because the latch on the drivers side rear pop out window was broken and I could just pull it open and reach over to pull the lock.

I had not seen one in years! Took my driver’s test in one back in 97
